HABONIM Selected to Supply Bidirectional Cryogenic Floating Ball Valves for the First Inland Bunker Pontoon in Europe

Posted by Jacky Vinocur | Dec 23, 2019 9:53:03 AM

As global emission regulations get stricter, ship owners are looking to either implement new emissions filtering systems on traditional oil fuel grades, or switch to cleaner sources of fuel – with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as the leading choice. However, while this proven fuel is compliant with ECA- and IMO 2020 and enables ship owners to meet the requirements for the main types of emissions (SOx, NOx, PM, and CO2), it also comes with its own challenges.

To solve these challenges and meet the growing demand for LNG as marine fuel at competitive prices, Titan LNG, a leading full-service supplier of LNG in North West Europe, designed and developed the first inland bunker pontoon in Europe for the ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) region. The inland bunker pontoon, known as the FlexFueler001, was designed to either supply LNG to inland waterway ships from a fixed location; or to be navigated to safely supply larger sea-going vessels with LNG, while they load or unload their cargo.

Titan LNG selects HABONIM to supply cryogenic fire-safe floating ball valves

The complexity of the project and the need for all components to undergo stringent testing and certification by a third-party for fire-safe and cryogenic use meant that Titan LNG selected its suppliers and integrators carefully. That’s why HABONIM was proud to be chosen as a supplier for this first-of-its-kind inland LNG bunker – a testament to its proven track record in LNG and advanced SSLNG projects.

The company worked seamlessly with other suppliers and integrators throughout the course of the project to provide Titan LNG with a complete package for the FlexFueler001 that met the highest safety and quality regulations and standards. This package included HABONIM’s patent-pending, cryogenic fire-safe floating ball valves, which offer all of the benefits of bidirectional cryogenic valves together with the simplicity of floating ball valve technology –and were delivered with the shortest possible delivery time!
