Habonim H23: Engineered for Hydrogen Excellence

Posted by Igor Berkovitz | Dec 15, 2025 1:37:25 PM

The latest addition to Habonim’s hydrogen-specific product family, the H23 – Hydrogen Service Valve, exemplifies this commitment. Designed by the most rigorous and comprehensive standards, the H23 promises long-term reliability, safety, and performance in hydrogen service. It delivers everything mechanical engineer's demand: robust construction, certified safety, and proven durability across the hydrogen supply chain.

Habonim was the first ball valve manufacturer to certify its products for hydrogen specific standards such as ISO 19880-3 (valves for Hydrogen refueling) and ISO 23826 (for TPED for Hydrogen), actively contributing to the development of the hydrogen-powered energy industry. Today, Habonim continues to lead by offering specialized solutions tailored to the most demanding applications, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Construction & Design

The H23 features a threaded body with a floating ball, which fully conforms to Habonim’s Total HermetiX concept, as featured on all Habonim valves. The primary feature of this concept is the unique HermetiX Seal incorporated into the stem sealing, which ensures flawless performance under side loads.

The valve features double sealing between the body and end connections for enhanced safety and performance. There are two types of seals - internal soft seals that ensure reliable, leak-free operation under everyday ultra-high-pressure conditions. The other type of seal, graphite-made, external to media flow, enables the fire-safe function, when the soft seals perish under fire conditions.

Stem & Mounting Features

  • Anti-blowout stem inserted from the inner body side—unique for this valve size
  • Miniature high-pressure AED O-ring for enhanced stem sealing
  • Integral locking device with a padlock-ready slot
  • Panel mounting: supports up to 3mm thickness
  • Bottom mounting: M4 threads for robust plate installation

Actuation

Compatible with Habonim C15 Pneumatic Actuator, enabling actuation in confined spaces with minimal footprint.

Design Standards, Validation & Testing

Designed and validated to meet rigorous standards, including:

  • Total HermetiX Integrity Package
  • ASME BPVC VIII Div I UG-101 – Burst test to 1034 bar (15,000 psi)
  • ATEX IIC – Hydrogen service
  • SIL2/3 – Safety Integrity Level
  • ISO 15848-1, API 641 – Fugitive emissions
  • ISO 10497, API607 – Fire-safe certification
  • ASME B31.12 – Materials choice
  • ASME B16.34 – Thread strength
  • 16,000 cycles endurance test under full ΔP

Habonim valves are fully compatible with hydrogen service materials and deliver proven performance in systems used by leading global companies.
